Kim Hyun Joo and Lee Moo Saeng team up as a fake couple to face Jin Sun Kyu in 100 Days of Deception

The upcoming drama 100 Days of Deception has revealed new stills of Kim Hyun Joo, Lee Moo Saeng, and Jin Sun Kyu, the three actors who form one of the central pillars of this espionage story set during the Japanese occupation of Korea.

The series is directed by Yoo In Shik, known for Extraordinary Attorney Woo and the Dr. Romantic saga. 100 Days of Deception is a period espionage romance that takes place over 100 days during that historical era.

What is 100 Days of Deception about?

The plot follows Lee Ga Kyeong (Kim You Jung), the most skilled pickpocket in Gyeongseong, modern-day Seoul, who becomes an undercover spy for the independence movement and infiltrates the Japanese Government-General of Korea. There, she becomes entangled in a complicated relationship with interpreter Kim Tae Woong (Park Jinyoung, of GOT7), also known as Sato Hideo, the adopted son of the Inspector General of Korea, the second-highest authority in the colonial administration.

Kim Hyun Joo, Lee Moo Saeng, and Jin Sun Kyu form another fundamental narrative axis through connections between their characters that date back several years.

Kim Hyun Joo plays a resistance sniper

Kim Hyun Joo brings to life Yoo So Ran, a sniper and prominent member of the anti-Japanese resistance group Gugukdan. She is an action-oriented fighter with exceptional marksmanship. What begins as a personal quest for revenge ends up becoming a life dedicated to a greater cause and her country. In the new photos, she is seen giving instructions to her comrades while firmly holding a heavy rifle.

Regarding her character, Kim Hyun Joo explained: She is someone who has endured for a long time, having given up her own life and clinging only to her personal desire for revenge. The actress added that although Yoo So Ran's journey begins with personal motivation, she eventually ends up living for a greater cause and for her country. Kim Hyun Joo detailed that she focused on delicately portraying her character's emotional transformation, noting that her heart, which had become cold and hardened, begins to change little by little upon meeting different people.

Lee Moo Saeng plays the husband of convenience

Lee Moo Saeng plays Yoo Philip, a Korean-American correspondent and member of Gugukdan. He is also Yoo So Ran's husband in a marriage of convenience. From his position as a journalist, Yoo Philip plays a key role in pressuring the Director of Political Affairs of the Japanese Government-General of Korea.

One of the new images shows Yoo Philip watching Yoo So Ran with concern. Lee Moo Saeng described his character as a person with a cool head and a passionate heart, and explained that although he is willing to risk everything for the cause, he tried to portray him as someone who always thinks things through carefully and acts guided by reason rather than emotion.

Jin Sun Kyu plays the villain of the colonial administration

Facing both characters is Jin Sun Kyu in the role of Sato Shinichi, Director of Political Affairs of the Japanese Government-General of Korea. Having risen to become the second-highest authority in the colonial administration, Sato Shinichi is willing to do whatever it takes to achieve success and advance his career. In the new photos, he remains completely impassive even while pointing a gun at someone else.

Sato Shinichi is also the target of Yoo So Ran's assassination plan. Unaware that Lee Ga Kyeong has infiltrated the Government-General under the identity of a new trainee interpreter named Geum Seo Hee, the character is unknowingly caught between the infiltration and revenge plans of both women, raising questions about how his actions will ultimately affect his fate.

Jin Sun Kyu described Sato Shinichi as a man at the center of evil, whom everyone wants to eliminate and from whom everyone wishes to stay away. The actor explained that he played the character as someone who crosses boundaries in pursuit of his own desires within the power structure, ultimately trampling on the lives and dignity of others.
