The Fourth Wing series has found its two main leads. Prime Video has confirmed the casting of Esther McGregor and Emilio Sakraya to headline the cast of this adaptation, one of the most anticipated fantasy projects of the coming years.
The announcement comes at a key moment for the platform, which is looking to consolidate a production capable of attracting the massive audience that turned the original novel into a sales and social media phenomenon.
Fourth Wing finds its leads
As reported by Deadline, Esther McGregor will play Violet Sorrengail, while Emilio Sakraya will bring Xaden Riorson to life. Both characters are the central axis of the story, both narratively and romantically.
Who is Violet Sorrengail
Esther McGregor, daughter of actor Ewan McGregor and known for her roles in Obi-Wan Kenobi and We Were Liars, will embody a young woman who enters Basgiath War College with the goal of becoming a dragon rider.
Training at Basgiath is far from a conventional academic experience. The environment is extremely competitive and dangerous, and Violet must prove her worth in a place where survival itself is a constant challenge.
Who is Xaden Riorson
Emilio Sakraya, with previous work in Warrior Nun and Those About to Die, will step into the shoes of Xaden Riorson, leader of the Fourth Wing squadron and one of the most significant characters in the literary saga.
Xaden possesses the ability to manipulate shadows thanks to the special bond he maintains with his dragon. His relationship with Violet begins marked by distrust, but evolves into an intense romantic story filled with secrets, rivalries, and constant danger.
What is Fourth Wing and why is it generating so much hype
Fourth Wing is the adaptation of one of the most successful romantic fantasy sagas of recent years. Author Rebecca Yarros published the first novel in 2023, and its popularity grew rapidly thanks to TikTok, where thousands of readers recommended it until it became a publishing phenomenon.
The book reached the top of The New York Times bestseller list and gave rise to the saga known as The Empyrean.
A story of dragons, war, and romance
Fourth Wing belongs to the romantasy genre, a combination of fantasy and romance that has gained ground among readers in recent years.
The plot takes place in the kingdom of Navarre, where aspiring dragon riders must overcome extremely grueling training at Basgiath War College. There, Violet Sorrengail is drawn into a world of rivalries, conspiracies, and dangerous creatures.
The bond between humans and dragons is essential to the story, but so are the relationships between the characters, especially the one that unites Violet and Xaden. That mix of fantasy action and romantic tension is one of the main reasons the saga has connected with so many readers, and it will now seek to repeat that effect in series format.
