The Basque drama Desaparecido/Desagertuta is back in front of the cameras. Production companies Pausoka Entertainment and Zebra Producciones have begun filming the second season of the series, which premiered in May 2025 on Primeran, the Basque public television platform EITB, as well as on Netflix.
The return of the series comes after its first batch of episodes became an audience phenomenon both regionally and on the streaming platform, which has encouraged its creators to continue exploring the story with a new installment full of mystery.
What the new season is about
The plot of this second season is set three years after the disappearance of Jon, played by Jon Lukas. The reunion of the old group of friends, marked by the tension accumulated during this time, will be one of the central axes of the new episodes.
Added to this is Iñaki's insistence on clarifying what really happened, as well as the appearance of Niko, an enigmatic young man who begins to hover around Amaia and adds a new layer of intrigue to the plot.
New cast members and returning actors
Actors Itziar Manero and Iker Roca are joining the cast for this second season. The series will also feature the participation of Goya winners Ane Gabarain and José Ramón Soroiz.
Returning to the regular cast are names such as Gorka Otxoa, Itziar Atienza, Jon Olivares, Ainhoa Azpitarte, Ane Rot, Ainhoa Larrañaga, Asier Rikarte, Unai Arana, and Julen Taboada.
Six episodes and dual version in Basque and Spanish
The new season of Desagertuta will consist of six episodes and will be filmed, just as in the first installment, entirely in Basque and entirely in Spanish. This formula made the series the first drama to opt for a full dual-language version for all its dialogue.
Primeran and Netflix Spain will once again be the premiere windows for the series once production is complete.
The reasons for the return, according to those in charge
The co-creator of the series, Xabi Zabaleta, highlighted the experience of filming in two languages during the first season. As he explains, although it was a significant challenge, seeing that the audience enjoyed both versions was very satisfying for the team. Zabaleta also underscored the continuity of the collaboration with EITB and the new working relationship with Netflix.
For her part, executive producer Juliana Barrera pointed out that the arrival of a second season confirms that the project has managed to connect with the audience and generate the impact expected by both EITB and Netflix. From Zebra Producciones, Barrera expressed her satisfaction with working with the group of characters from Desagertuta again, anticipating a story with new twists, unprecedented characters, and a more complex mystery to solve.
The success of the first season
The first season of Desaparecido/Desagertuta became the most-watched content on Primeran during the nine weeks its episodes were released. On Netflix Spain, the series managed to stay in the top 10 for nine consecutive weeks, a figure that reinforces the interest in this new installment.
