Proyecta 2026: Twelve Latin American Films Seek European Coproduction at Ventana Sur

Twelve film projects from Latin America and Europe will compete for funding and international coproduction in the ninth edition of Proyecta, which will be held as part of Ventana Sur, the most important audiovisual market in the region. The event will take place from November 30 to December 4 in Montevideo, Uruguay.

The initiative is particularly relevant this year as it once again builds bridges between two industries looking to strengthen their joint production ties: Latin American and European. Proyecta is the result of a collaboration between Ventana Sur, the Marché du Film-Festival de Cannes, and the San Sebastian Festival, three key platforms for Spanish and Portuguese-language cinema.

What is Proyecta and how does it work?

Proyecta is designed for filmmakers developing their first or second feature film who need to find production partners, international sales agencies, or festival programmers willing to invest in their projects.

The central activity will be an in-person pitch session, scheduled for Wednesday, December 2, where production teams will present their projects to the industry. This presentation will be complemented by other networking spaces throughout the market.

Origin of the selected projects

This year's selection stands out for its geographical and thematic diversity. Of the twelve chosen projects, nine come from Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Peru, and Uruguay, while seven feature Spanish, French, or Italian coproduction.

Two of the selected titles had previously passed through another coproduction support platform: 'Cara sucia / Dirty Face', by Argentine director Ignacio Acconcia González, and 'Isabel Hernández', by Italian director Giorgio Giampà, both participated in the 15th Europe-Latin America Co-Production Forum at the San Sebastian Festival.

Awards and opportunities for the projects

The selected teams are eligible for several awards that can significantly boost the development of their films. One project will be able to participate in the following year's Sørfond Pitching Forum, where it will be presented to potential Norwegian coproducers, with the option to automatically access that fund's grants if a coproduction is secured in Norway.

In addition, two producers will be invited to the San Sebastian Festival in 2027, providing additional exposure for their projects at one of the benchmark festivals for Spanish-language cinema.

All projects will also be eligible for the Sideral Cinema Award, consisting of the pre-purchase of international rights for one of the films with a guaranteed minimum of 10,000 euros, as well as the newly created ArteKino International Award, which comes with 6,000 euros.

The context of Ventana Sur

Ventana Sur has established itself as the most relevant film and audiovisual content market in Latin America, bringing together producers, distributors, sales agencies, and festival programmers from around the world every year. The inclusion of Proyecta in its programming reinforces the market's role as a meeting point between the Latin American and European industries, at a time when international coproduction is key to moving auteur projects forward with tight budgets.
