Netflix has unveiled the first official poster for Narnia: The Magician's Nephew, the new film directed by Greta Gerwig, on social media. The image arrives just before the release of the first trailer, confirmed for tomorrow, October 13, scheduled for 2 PM ET (7 PM Spanish peninsular time).
This is the first major piece of marketing released directly by Netflix following the round of exclusive reveals that Empire magazine shared last month, which captured the attention of Narnia fans for several weeks.
What the new Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew poster shows
The poster is dominated by a massive profile silhouette of Aslan, with his mane fading into the stars. The lion's shadow occupies almost the entire frame, and inside it seems to contain the cosmos itself, a direct reference to the central moment in the story where Aslan sings to bring Narnia into existence.
In the center of the composition, two small riders appear flying on a winged horse amidst a burst of prismatic light. Those familiar with the novel will immediately recognize Digory and Polly on the back of Fledge (formerly called Strawberry, a London cab horse), who in the book carries the children on their journey to the west.
Above the entire image appears a simple tagline: A Universe Begins. Below, the poster maintains the same credit A Film by Greta Gerwig and the official Narnia logo shown previously, along with the legend Only in Theaters February 12 and the mention Experience it in IMAX, confirming that Netflix is treating this production as a major theatrical release.
In addition to the poster, Netflix has also uploaded a new horizontal image to the official film page. It is a variation of the same design, with Aslan's silhouette shifted to the right of the frame and the left side occupied by a swirling nebula in shades of blue, lilac, and cream, with a texture reminiscent of paint dissolved in water. The style moves completely away from the earthy aesthetic of the Walden Media and Disney trilogy, and fits the cosmic approach to the creation of the world that Gerwig has mentioned in interviews.
Weeks of reveals thanks to Empire’s coverage
This poster comes after a multi-day exclusive published by Empire magazine in September, which offered the first real look at the film. That coverage officially confirmed one of the most discussed casting rumors in recent Netflix history: Meryl Streep will be the voice of Aslan.
As reported at the time, the new design for Aslan is heavily inspired by David Bowie, with heterochromia and distinctive red stripes on his face as a direct tribute to the singer.
Empire also published an exclusive subscriber cover showing Aslan creating Narnia, created by concept artist Jaime Jones. The following day, the first images of the film's two main villains arrived: Daniel Craig as the scheming Uncle Andrew Ketterley and Emma Mackey as the sorceress Jadis. Craig's character appears surrounded by glowing flasks and light-distorting apparatuses in his cluttered study, while Jadis wears glam rock-inspired costumes built with shiny, armor-like fabrics.
The full edition of the magazine included more details. Gerwig described her version of the story as a rock opera, with references to David Bowie and The Who, and moved the timeline of The Magician's Nephew to the 1950s, rather than 1900, the year in which the original novel takes place. The director also defined Uncle Andrew as the stupidest magician in the world who actually made magic. In a fun fact, Streep recorded her brief vocal contribution for Project Hail Mary between recording sessions for her role as Aslan.

When does Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew premiere
The film was removed from the 2026 calendar in favor of a wider theatrical release. It will hit theaters on February 12, 2027, with IMAX previews starting February 10, and will join Netflix on April 2, 2027. This represents an exclusive theatrical window of seven weeks (49 days), the longest in Netflix history for an English-language film of this scale. The trailer will be unveiled in the coming days, along with a detailed analysis of its content as soon as it becomes available.
