Filming for the second season of Little House on the Prairie has officially concluded. Netflix has confirmed the end of production and, along with the news, has presented a long list of new additions to the cast who will bring the residents of Walnut Grove to life in the upcoming installment of the series.
The platform renewed the series for a second season in March, months before the first installment premiered on July 9. According to previous reports on the production schedule, filming was expected to begin in June 2026 and run through November. However, production appears to have finished several weeks earlier than initially planned.
This second season adapts the next book in Laura Ingalls Wilder's saga, On the Banks of Plum Creek, which chronicles the Ingalls family's settlement near Walnut Grove, Minnesota.
The showrunner’s message after filming wraps
Showrunner and executive producer Rebecca Sonnenshine shared a few words on the occasion of the production wrap: all of this year's cast additions have made this season in Walnut Grove feel absolutely magical. Sonnenshine also thanked the technical team for their work and the support of partners at CBS Studios, Anonymous Content, and Netflix throughout the process.
Cast confirmed for Season 2
Most of the main cast from the first season is returning for this new installment. Among them are Alice Halsey as Laura Ingalls, Luke Bracey as Charles Ingalls, Crosby Fitzgerald as Caroline Ingalls, Skywalker Hughes as Mary Ingalls, and Warren Christie as John Edwards.
Netflix had previously announced three major additions for this season: Willa Dunn will play the iconic Nellie Oleson, Charlotte Sullivan will play her mother, Margaret Oleson, and Rachelle Lefevre will play teacher Eva Beadle.
The new Walnut Grove additions
Joining these names are the following actors, most in recurring roles as guest stars:
- David Wronko as Thomas Perry, the intelligent son of Walnut Grove's wealthiest family, who plans to attend university in New York.
- Erik Athavale as Reverend Alden, the warm and progressive minister of the town's congregational church.
- Elyse Levesque as Emma Perry, a refined but charitable woman, born into wealth, who secretly runs her husband's business.
- Graham Harvey as Johnny Johnson, a sweet-natured farm boy, son of Norwegian immigrants, who has never been to school.
- Jacinta Forest Lewitski as Hannah Walker, Lena Nelson's dry-witted farm manager and first baseman for the Prairie Clippers.
- Lyla Porter-Follows as Mrs. Lena Nelson, a direct, young widow who runs the farm left behind by her husband.
- Martin Roach as Simon Hughes, a Civil War veteran and widower who owns the town blacksmith shop.
- Paul Greene as Luther Perry, the unpopular grain buyer and town banker, who puts profits before farmers.
- Ryan Northcott as William Oleson, the gentle owner of the town's best store and devoted father to Nellie.
- Scott Porter, as a guest star, as Peter Ingalls, Charles's responsible older brother.
Fans of the original NBC series will recognize several of these names. Nels, Harriet, and Nellie Oleson were among the most beloved (and hated) characters in the 1974 production, although this new version chooses to give William Oleson a different first name than the classic character.
Directing team confirmed
Netflix has also confirmed the eight directors in charge of the second season episodes:

- Episode 203: Julie Anne Robinson
- Episode 204: Liza Johnson
- Episode 205: Sarah Boyd
- Episode 206: Ellen Kuras
- Episode 207: Sydney Freeland
- Episode 208: Pascal Verschooris
Verschooris also serves as an executive producer, alongside Rebecca Sonnenshine, Joy Gorman Wettels, Trip Friendly, and Dana Fox. The series is produced by CBS Studios and Anonymous Content Studio.
When will Season 2 premiere on Netflix?
Netflix has not yet announced a premiere date for the second season. The first installment arrived on the platform approximately nine months after finishing its own filming, so, following a similar pattern, a release in the summer of 2027 is plausible, although this has not been officially confirmed by Netflix.
