RTVE and Abycine select the five finalists for the 15,000 euro award

The Albacete International Film Festival, Abycine, and the RTVE Corporation have announced the five projects that will compete for the 2nd RTVE Abycine Talent Award for Best Short Film Project. The call, which includes 15,000 euros, seeks to boost new voices in Spanish cinema at a key moment for the renewal of national audiovisual talent.

The selection is significant because it is part of a stable collaboration mechanism between a public broadcaster and an independent festival, aimed at helping projects in the development phase secure funding, visibility, and institutional support to become finished works.

The five finalist projects

The selected short films are as follows:

  • Siameses, by Teo Guillem, produced by DVEIN Films.
  • Mal de güeyu, by Marta González Gallego, managed by Freews Producciones.
  • Avestruz, by Pablo Bartolomé, promoted by Sincio de Pelis.
  • Catari, by Javier Morales Prados, produced by Ínsula Sur.
  • Yo la veo guapa, by Alejandro González Mañoso and Gabriela Sellanes Fagini, with the participation of Prolija Films and SMC Producciones.

The five proposals combine genres such as comedy, horror, drama, and science fiction. According to the organization, the stories address themes related to human relationships, care, identity, traditions, and social and environmental challenges.

Pitch before a jury at Abycine Lanza

The teams responsible for each project will present their proposals in a pitch format within the Corto Pro Zone of Abycine Lanza, the independent audiovisual market linked to the festival. The eleventh edition of this professional space will be held from October 20 to 23 in Albacete.

During these days, the creators will present their projects to a specialized jury and audiovisual industry professionals, with the goal of securing additional support to bring their stories to life.

What the award includes

The winning project will receive 15,000 euros intended exclusively to cover the production costs of the short film. The production will be carried out under the supervision of RTVE, which will acquire the broadcast rights for the resulting work.

In addition to its television broadcast, the winning short film will be available on the RTVE Play platform, which will expand its potential reach among digital audiences. As part of the agreement, the winning work will have its Spanish premiere within the Abycine Cortos Official Section, a showcase that reinforces its projection within the festival circuit.
