Heartland Season 20 will arrive in the United States much earlier than usual, although Netflix subscribers will still have to wait several months to see it on the platform. UP Entertainment confirmed that its streaming service, UP Faith & Family, will premiere the new season on Thursday, November 19, 2026, becoming the first place in the United States to offer it before Netflix adds it to its catalog.
As we have been reporting for several years, Netflix does not hold the first-run rights for the series in the United States. For this reason, new seasons only arrive on the platform once UP's exclusivity window ends. The November date is, for now, the most useful data point to estimate when Netflix will add Season 20.
The new installment, consisting of 10 episodes, began airing in Canada via CBC and CBC Gem on October 4, following filming that took place between May and September in Calgary, Alberta.
What is Heartland Season 20 about?
The plot picks up with Amy as she weighs her future with Nathan, in a context marked by the arrival of a social media-savvy rival. Lou, for her part, launches a new business project, while Jack tries to gradually regain trust in Dex after the estrangement of the previous season.
"Twenty seasons of Heartland is something I am incredibly proud of," said lead actress Amber Marshall in the official statement. "I am so excited for our audience in the United States to be able to enjoy Season 20 on UP Faith & Family and continue this journey with us."
How will Season 20 be released in the United States?
UP Faith & Family will release episodes weekly. If the pattern previously reported by TV Insider this month holds, the season would pause after the fifth episode on December 17 for a holiday break, returning on January 14, 2027. That would place the season finale on Thursday, February 11, 2027.
UP will also host a live virtual watch party for its subscribers on the night of the premiere. The service costs $5.99 per month and is also available as an add-on via Prime Video Channels, The Roku Channel, Apple TV, and YouTube Primetime Channels, among others.
Crissie Miller, VP of Content Strategy at UP Entertainment, noted that the company is "thrilled to bring Season 20 back to our subscribers so close to its Canadian premiere." This temporal proximity is unusual: Season 16 took eight months to cross the border into the United States, while Season 20 will do so in just 46 days.
When will Heartland Season 20 arrive on Netflix in the United States?
Netflix has not confirmed anything yet, and the platform usually announces new seasons of Heartland with only a few weeks' notice. However, there are already four reference seasons that allow us to calculate how long the UP exclusivity window usually lasts, measured from the premiere on UP Faith & Family to the arrival on Netflix in the United States.
Season 16 premiered on UP on June 1, 2023, and arrived on Netflix on June 1, 2024, a 12-month margin. Season 17 premiered in the spring of 2024 and did not appear on Netflix until September 15, 2025, about 17 months later. Season 18 premiered on April 17, 2025, and arrived on Netflix on February 1, 2026, after 9.5 months. Season 19 premiered on November 6, 2025, and landed on Netflix on September 1, 2026, a 10-month wait.
Season 17 is the exception to this pattern, as it coincided with the near-complete withdrawal of the series from Netflix in the United States in August 2025, while a new deal was being negotiated. If that case is set aside, the window has stabilized between 10 and 12 months.
Counting between 10 and 12 months from November 19, 2026, the arrival on Netflix would be between September and November 2027. Season 19 is the closest comparison, with a November premiere and an almost identical holiday break, and it arrived on Netflix on September 1. Therefore, the most likely estimate remains September 2027, with October or November as an alternative.
What is guaranteed is that the series will not disappear from Netflix in the meantime. As we reported in August, the Netflix license in the United States for the current catalog extends until at least September 2028, so the 19 available seasons should remain accessible throughout the wait.
What about Netflix outside the United States?
Regions like the United Kingdom and Australia do not depend on the agreement with UP, so they receive new seasons much earlier. Season 19 arrived on Netflix internationally in March 2026, approximately three months after its finale on CBC. If Season 20 concludes on CBC in early December, as expected, the forecast points to it arriving in most international regions between March and June 2027.
It is worth remembering that Seasons 1 through 6 remain unavailable outside the United States since their removal in 2022.
Is Season 20 the last of Heartland?
The unconfirmed rumor that Season 20 could be the last of the series continues to circulate among fans, but the released statement does not clarify it in any way. Amber Marshall's statement speaks of continuing "this journey," and neither CBC nor the production team has announced an end to the show. If the situation changes, the information will be updated.
It is also worth avoiding confusion: the thriller starring Jessica Chastain, which is also titled Heartland, will arrive on Netflix globally on November 13, six days before the UP premiere. It has no relation to the Bartlett-Fleming family of the Canadian series.
