La bola negra nears 6 million euros and approaches the Spanish cinema top 10

The Spanish box office is experiencing a rare phenomenon. La bola negra, the film directed by Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, has achieved something very few releases manage: improving its box office intake in its second weekend instead of falling, which is the usual trend in the industry.

The film, inspired by the unfinished work of Federico García Lorca, has risen 24% compared to its opening weekend, nearing 6 million euros grossed between Friday and Sunday alone. Specifically, it brought in 5,989,992 euros over these last few days.

An accumulated figure that already exceeds the budget

Since its arrival in theaters, La bola negra has already accumulated 15,110,356 euros, an amount that exceeds its own production budget, estimated at around 15 million euros. The film, distributed in Spain by Elastica, has brought 2,131,608 spectators to theaters so far.

The film's strong performance is not limited to the weekend. According to available data, La bola negra has also led the daily box office on the following Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, although those figures are not yet included in the total accumulated amount.

Close to entering the historic Spanish top 10

At this rate of revenue, the film is on the verge of breaking into the ten highest-grossing Spanish films in history. To achieve this, it needs to surpass the 21.4 million euros achieved by Ágora, which currently holds the tenth position in that ranking.

More difficult, though not impossible, will be reaching the title of the highest-grossing Spanish film of the year, a position currently held by Torrente presidente, with 28.1 million euros grossed.

Tom Cruise and Anne Hathaway fall short of expectations in Spain

While La bola negra remains unstoppable, other international releases have not achieved the same success in Spanish theaters. This is the case for Digger, starring Tom Cruise, which is considered one of the worst big-budget releases in recent United States history.

In Spain, the film remains in sixth place in the weekly ranking, with 321,422 euros grossed in its debut. Worldwide, Digger has accumulated 23 million dollars against a budget of 125 million dollars, confirming a failure of significant magnitude.

Verity. La sombra de un engaño, starring Anne Hathaway, has also not performed as expected. The film led the box office in the United States, but in Spain, it has not risen above fourth place, with 689,523 euros grossed in its premiere.

Brad Pitt and Resident Evil remain strong

En el corazón de la bestia, starring Brad Pitt, achieves a meritorious second place in its second week, with 1,055,494 euros grossed and an accumulated total of 3.17 million euros. The film benefits from good word-of-mouth, which explains its minimal drop compared to its opening week.

Resident Evil also remains in good shape. After three weeks in theaters, it occupies third place with an additional 744,927 euros, already reaching 5.5 million euros in our country.

The rest of the week’s top 10

In fifth position appears La isla olvidada, with a soft drop of 19% and 344,902 euros grossed, which brings its total to 908,478 euros.

The re-release of Vengadores: Endgame sits in seventh place, with a 79% drop compared to its first week, which is expected as it is a proposal designed especially for the most loyal fans of the saga. Even so, it adds an additional 317,217 euros, with a total of 2.16 million euros in ten days.

The Spanish animated production Tadeo Jones y la lámpara maravillosa occupies eighth place in its sixth week in theaters, adding 266,281 euros for a total of 7.48 million euros.

Coyote contra Acme sneaks into ninth position, with 268,281 euros this weekend and an accumulated total that already exceeds 1.65 million euros in Spain.

Closing the top 10 is La Odisea, which displaces Spider-Man: Brand New Day from this ranking for the first time. The film adds 139,678 more euros, with a total that is around 38.96 million dollars in our country.
