The wait for the return of the Hyosan High survivors is nearing its end. Netflix renewed All of Us Are Dead in June 2022, just months after the first season became one of the most-watched Korean series on the platform, but news had been scarce since then. Filming was delayed from 2024 to 2025, the cast changed, and the series did not even appear in the Netflix Korea catalog announced for 2026.
The good news is that the outlook is now much clearer. Season 2 has finished filming, Netflix has officially revealed the returning actors and new additions, and the series will be a highlight of the "What Next?" showcase during the Netflix Korea 10th-anniversary festival in Seoul at the end of October.
Below, we review everything known so far about All of Us Are Dead Season 2.
Season 2 was renewed four years ago
Netflix confirmed the second season during the first day of Geeked Week on June 6, 2022, with Park Ji-hu, Yoon Chan-young, Cho Yi-hyun, and Lomon announcing the news in a video. The Netflix Korea statement opened with the question "Are they all really dead?" and noted that the first season had entered the non-English top 10 in 91 countries.
The renewal was never in doubt. According to Netflix's own figures at the time, the first season accumulated 361.02 million hours in its first 10 days and 560.78 million hours in its first 28 days, a figure that still places it fourth in the old 28-day ranking for non-English series that Netflix retired in 2023. Under the current 91-day methodology, the series recorded 679.3 million hours and 55.5 million views.
Interest in the series has continued to grow since then. According to Netflix's engagement reports, the series added another 480.5 million hours (approximately 39.2 million views) between 2023 and 2025.
Director Lee Jae-kyu had already hinted at the direction of a potential second season even before it was confirmed. Speaking to Korean media such as Insight in February 2022, he stated: "If season 1 was about the survival of humans, season 2 will be about the survival of zombies." He also confirmed that the first season was written with a continuation in mind.
The long road to filming
For a series renewed in 2022, the time elapsed until cameras started rolling was unusually long. This is the timeline according to available information:
2022 to 2023: Casting discussions begin, with production initially planned for 2024.
May 2024: The Korean outlet Star News exclusively reported that Netflix had delayed filming by a full year, until 2025, citing a desire to achieve "a better production environment and higher quality." At that time, the report mentioned Roh Yoon-seo as a new addition to the cast.
March 2025: Auditions were held for undisclosed roles.
May 2025: It was reported that filming was scheduled for the summer of 2025. Around the same time, Naver reported that Roh Yoon-seo had withdrawn from the project due to a scheduling conflict with The East Palace.
June 2025: News1 revealed the first batch of new cast names.
July 23, 2025: Netflix Korea officially announced the cast alongside a photo from the script reading, confirming that filming was underway, as reported by Newsis and other media. Korean fan wikis place the first day of filming on July 10, 2025, although that date has never been confirmed by Netflix.
January 2026: The regional newspaper Kangwon Domin Ilbo reported that the Gangwon Provincial Office building in Chuncheon was selected as a filming location, using its rooftop and plaza for two days of shooting on January 17 and 18.
February 2026: Filming concludes. Cho Yi-hyun indicated she finished her participation on February 4, extras playing zombies confirmed the last major shoot on February 14, and Park Ji-hu posted about wrapping her filming on February 18. Unverified reports place the wrap party on February 19. Korean wikis point to February 20 as the final day.
In total, this is approximately seven months of filming for a season expected to be heavy on visual effects, which has a direct impact on the release date discussed later.
An additional detail from the Korean press: when supporting actor Seo Ji-hoon announced his military enlistment in late January 2026, his agency confirmed to Star News that he had already completed all his scenes for All of Us Are Dead 2 before joining the service on February 3.
Who is in the cast of All of Us Are Dead Season 2?
The Netflix Korea announcement in July 2025 confirmed four returning leads and four new faces.
Returning Cast
Park Ji-hu returns as Nam On-jo, one of the few survivors of the Hyosan High outbreak, now a university student trying to leave the past behind before disaster strikes again.
Yoon Chan-young reprises the role of Lee Cheong-san, the friend who "fought to protect his friends" in the first season. The official Netflix description is limited to what the character did in season 1, without confirming how or in what state he returns.
Cho Yi-hyun returns as Choi Nam-ra, the "halfbie" (half-infected) class president who ended the first season on the school rooftop alongside others like her.
Lomon returns as Lee Su-hyeok, who still harbors feelings for Nam-ra. His return was confirmed separately by the production team on July 24, 2025, according to Bridge Economy.
New Additions
Lee Min-jae (known for Weak Hero Class 2 and Crash Course in Romance) plays Ma-ru, an older university peer of On-jo.
Kim Si-eun (Squid Game Season 2, Next Sohee) plays Ju-ran, an outgoing student who balances student council duties with several clubs.
Roh Jae-won (Squid Game Seasons 2 and 3, D.P. Season 2) plays Han Du-seok, a National Intelligence Service team leader who increases the tension of the plot.
Yoon Ga-yi (SNL Korea, Undercover High School) plays Jong-a, a cheerful university student known for her direct way of speaking.
Names mentioned but not officially confirmed
Some names have surfaced in Korean media exclusives without appearing in the official Netflix announcement. Seo Ji-hoon (Prison Playbook, Begins Youth) appeared in the News1 exclusive from June 2025, and his agency has confirmed he shot scenes for the season, although his character has not been revealed. Kim Min (Our Blues) was mentioned by SPOTV News in June 2025 as playing a character named Jang Ho-seok. Han Hyun-jun appears on Korean fan wikis as playing Park Min-jung, citing a July 2025 exclusive that could not be independently verified.
Previous reports also suggested the return of supporting actors from the first season such as Lee Eun-saem (Park Mi-jin), Ha Seung-ri (Jang Ha-ri), Lim Jae-hyeok (Yang Dae-su), and Kim Bo-yun (Seo Hyo-ryung). None of them appeared in Netflix's official cast reveal, so their participation should be considered unconfirmed.
What about Cheong-san?
This is the question Korean media raised as soon as the cast was announced. Dispatch titled its casting news with the question "Was Cheong-san alive?", recalling that the first season ended with a strong hint of his death when he dragged Gwi-nam into the burning building.
Netflix's official description regarding Yoon Chan-young's return is carefully worded and only references what Cheong-san did in the first season. The actor himself stated to the Korean press in 2022 that he did not know his character's fate and that, "personally, I want him to live." Director Lee Jae-kyu was equally reserved in an interview with WikiTree: "We have a plan, but it's difficult to share it here," adding that if Cheong-san returned, "some people won't accept it, and others will be happy."
What is clear is that Yoon Chan-young is part of the season, but whether his appearance occurs through flashbacks, as a return in halfbie form, or in some other way remains the big mystery that Netflix is keeping secret.
Behind-the-scenes team
Director Lee Jae-kyu and writer Chun Sung-il both return, and Korean media have noted that the creative pair is "reuniting" for the sequel. The Netflix Korea promotional tagline for this season, cited by Newsis, promises that "a wider world and stronger characters will make this a more intense season."
What will All of Us Are Dead Season 2 be about?
The official Netflix synopsis moves the action out of Hyosan High and into the capital. According to the platform, just when everyone thinks the crisis is over and life has returned to normal, a new zombie virus spreads through Seoul.
The more extensive synopsis that Netflix has been using notes: "Nam On-jo, who survived the zombie outbreak at Hyosan High, is now a university student in Seoul, still dealing with the trauma and the friends she lost. When a new wave of infection suddenly hits Seoul, she is forced to face another fight for survival without the people she once trusted."
Korean media such as Sports Kyunghyang have consistently described that Season 2 expands the setting from the high school to the "university and downtown Seoul." On-jo's new circle (Ma-ru, Ju-ran, and Jong-a) consists of university students, so campus-based chaos is expected from the start. Roh Jae-won's character as a National Intelligence Service team leader suggests that the government response, and what it knows about the virus and the halfbies, will play a larger role in the story than the clumsy military of the first season.
Korean fan wikis place the season at 12 episodes, matching the first season, but Netflix has not officially confirmed either the number of episodes or their duration.
When does All of Us Are Dead Season 2 premiere on Netflix?
Netflix has not yet announced a release date. Here is what is known:
The series did not appear in the Netflix Korea catalog for 2026, announced during the Next on Netflix Korea event on January 21, 2026, which included over 30 titles presented as the year's slate.
Rumors have circulated on social media for over a year about a possible December 2026 release, but there is no evidence to support them. Given that filming only ended in February 2026 and post-production with heavy visual effects remains, that scenario seems unlikely.
Korean sources are divided: the Korean Wikipedia still mentions "second half of 2026," a reference that seems outdated. The Namu fan wiki points to February 2027, explicitly clarifying that it is based on rumors and not official information.
Everything points to All of Us Are Dead Season 2 potentially becoming one of the first major K-dramas of 2027, approximately five years after the premiere of the first season, which arrived in late January 2022.
New details at the Netflix Korea 10th anniversary event
The next important date on the calendar is Saturday, October 24, 2026. Netflix Korea is hosting a two-day fan festival called "Netflix Janchi" (Netflix Feast) at the Oil Tank Culture Park in Seoul's Sangam-dong district to celebrate ten years of presence in the country.
The specialized Korean outlet RNX reported on October 2 that All of Us Are Dead Season 2 has been included in the "What Next?" showcase of upcoming titles, alongside the live-action adaptation of Solo Leveling, Grand Galaxy Hotel, Lee Chang-dong's Possible Love, Slowly, Intensely (Tantara), and Wolf, Girl. Cast members are scheduled to take the stage, and the "What Next?" segment will be broadcast live on the Netflix Korea YouTube channel.
Netflix has not promised a teaser, but this will be the first time the series is presented publicly since the 2022 renewal video, so a first look or the announcement of a release window would be logical moves.
