Classical physics follows Laplace's principle of deterministic causality: knowing the position and momentum of every particle, the future is entirely predictable. Quantum physics is intrinsically probabilistic; the state of a system is described by a wave function, and we can only calculate the probability of obtaining a given result upon measurement.
